Owned revenue that does not get repriced by an ad auction
Shopify email marketing is the practice of turning store data into automated lifecycle messages and planned campaigns: welcome and browse abandonment, cart and checkout recovery, post-purchase and replenishment, winback, VIP and subscription sequences. On Shopify a flow can only react to an event the store actually sends, which is why most underperforming programmes fail at the data layer rather than at the copy.
Binary Future builds the data and the messages together. The same team that builds themes, checkout extensions and ERP and CRM integrations sets up the Klaviyo connection, the custom events and the catalogue sync, so segmentation can use real order history, product attributes, margin and subscription status instead of opens and clicks.
In a healthy programme most owned revenue comes from automations that run without anyone touching them. Campaigns matter, but they are the smaller half of the number.
Sending more email to the same list raises unsubscribes and damages inbox placement. Sending a relevant message to a smaller segment raises revenue per recipient instead.
Authentication, warm-up, list hygiene and sunset policies decide whether a message is seen at all. No amount of copywriting improves an email that lands in spam.
Why growing Shopify brands rebuild their email programme
Owned channels are the only revenue that is not repriced every quarter by an auction. Email and SMS convert traffic you have already paid for into second and third orders.
A welcome series written at launch is still running two years later, with discontinued products and an old brand voice in it. Flow decay is invisible until someone measures revenue per recipient.
Apple Mail Privacy Protection inflates opens and inbox providers tightened filtering. A programme still optimised for open rate is optimising against a number that no longer reflects reality.
Unengaged subscribers drag sender reputation down and reduce inbox placement for everyone else on the list. A list that is never pruned costs money twice: in platform fees and in lost delivery.

What a Shopify email marketing programme delivers
A channel you control
Revenue that does not move because a bidding algorithm changed overnight.
Second and third orders, sooner
Replenishment and post-purchase flows shorten the gap between orders.
Authentication and list hygiene fixed
Messages reach the primary inbox instead of promotions or spam.
Order history, not opens
Targeting built on what people bought, browsed and returned.
Retention offsets acquisition
A higher repeat rate raises what you can afford to pay for a first order.
Maintained, not abandoned
Products, offers and copy in automations match what the store actually sells today.
Choose your engagement model
Every list is at a different stage. We offer three models to match your programme maturity, catalogue and internal team.
Stores that need continuous campaign production, flow maintenance and testing.
Stores launching, replatforming or moving to a new email platform that need the core system built once, properly.
Our email marketing process
Every engagement follows a structured five-stage process, so each message can be traced back to a segment, an event and a number.
Audit & Data Check
We review flows, list health and sending reputation, and confirm which Shopify events actually reach the platform. A flow cannot fire on data the store never sent.
Integration & Segmentation
The Klaviyo connection, custom events and catalogue sync are configured, then segments are rebuilt on order history and behaviour instead of engagement metrics.
Flow Architecture & Build
Core flows are mapped as one system with shared suppression rules, then built, tested against real orders and switched on in priority order.
Campaigns, Testing & Iteration
A campaign calendar goes live alongside the flows. Subject lines, offers and send times are tested in cycles, and losing tests are reported as losses.
Maintain & Scale
List hygiene and sunset policies keep deliverability healthy, flows are refreshed as the catalogue changes, and winning sequences are extended to new segments.
FAQ about Shopify email marketing
Shopify email marketing is the combination of automated lifecycle flows and planned campaigns that run off your store data. Flows react to behaviour such as signing up, abandoning a cart, completing a first order or going quiet for ninety days. Campaigns are the scheduled sends around launches, seasons and promotions. Both depend on the store passing accurate events and catalogue data to the email platform.
A Shopify email marketing agency audits the existing programme and list health, connects the store data properly, builds and maintains the lifecycle flows, produces the campaign calendar and creative, manages segmentation and deliverability, and reports on revenue per recipient rather than on opens. An agency that also builds on Shopify can add the custom events and on-site forms the programme needs instead of requesting them from another vendor.
Shopify email marketing at Binary Future starts at $800 per month. Platform fees for Klaviyo or an equivalent tool are billed separately by the vendor and scale with list size.
Klaviyo by default, because its Shopify integration exposes order, product and behavioural data that generic email tools do not. We also work with the platform you already use if migrating is not worth the disruption, and we say so plainly when the current tool is good enough for the programme you need.
For a mature programme, 25% to 35% of total store revenue attributed to owned channels is a realistic range, with the majority of it coming from automated flows rather than campaigns. Stores below that range usually have gaps in flow coverage, in segmentation, or in deliverability rather than a copywriting problem. Retention work on a high-volume beauty store is described in the Mylee case study.
At minimum: welcome series, browse abandonment, cart abandonment, checkout abandonment, post-purchase onboarding, review request, winback and sunset. Stores with consumable or subscription products add replenishment and subscription lifecycle flows, which typically become the highest-earning automations in the account, as in the MuttGut pet wellness build.
A complete core flow set is usually live within four to six weeks, including data integration, segmentation, copy, design and testing. Priority flows such as cart and checkout recovery can be switched on in the first two weeks so the programme starts earning while the rest is built.
Lifecycle flows are worth building at almost any list size, because they run on behaviour rather than volume. Campaign testing and segmentation work need scale to produce reliable readings, and a list of a few thousand engaged subscribers is a practical floor for that. Below it, the priority is list growth and flow coverage rather than testing.
The common causes are missing or incorrect SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, sending to unengaged subscribers, a sudden increase in volume from a cold domain, spam complaint rates above 0.3%, and reused purchased lists. Inbox placement is repaired by fixing authentication, suppressing unengaged contacts, and re-warming the sending domain gradually rather than by rewriting the emails.
Only as a rough directional signal. Apple Mail Privacy Protection pre-loads images and inflates opens, so the number no longer separates read from unread reliably. We report on revenue per recipient, click to conversion, repeat purchase rate and unsubscribe and complaint rates, and use opens only for deliverability trend monitoring.
Yes. Copywriting in your brand voice, a modular responsive template system and campaign design are part of the engagement. Nothing is delivered as a strategy document that your team then has to produce and build on its own.
Yes. Order, inventory, subscription and customer data from an ERP, CRM or subscription platform can be pushed into the email platform so segmentation and flows use it directly. That connection is built as part of Shopify CRM and ERP integrations rather than left to a generic connector app.
Yes, with a different shape. B2B programmes focus on account activation, first order and reorder cadence, price list updates, quote follow-up and dormant account recovery rather than on discount-driven promotions. It works best when the storefront already supports company accounts and gated pricing, as described on B2B Shopify development.
Migrations break email programmes quietly: product and customer IDs change, events stop firing, and flows keep running against data that no longer exists. We remap events, catalogue references and consent status before launch, and verify each flow against real orders on the new store. Migration work itself is covered under Shopify migration services.
The same first-party data drives both. Purchase and engagement segments become suppression lists and Customer Match audiences, so paid budget is not spent on customers a flow is already converting, and high-value segments can be targeted separately. This is planned together with Shopify Google Ads rather than in two disconnected accounts.
Binary Future builds the store and the programme with the same team, so a missing event, a broken form or an unsynced catalogue is fixed at the source instead of becoming a limitation the email agency has to work around. Retention is planned alongside Shopify CRO, because the same on-site behaviour drives both first purchase and repeat purchase.

Give us read access to your email platform and your store, and we will show you revenue by flow, where coverage is missing, and what your deliverability is costing you. No commitment, and the findings are yours whether or not we work together. If paid acquisition is the bigger question right now, the same review is available for Google Ads.
